Default Catching small crabs for bait

Im heading to Destin in May and staying in a condo on a marina. I was thinking about bringing a crayfish trap and leaving it tied to the dock overnight to catch crabs for bait. Would this work? Also, do crabs make good bait in surf, jetties, and marinas?

it might work. The small crabs tend to be in shallower water. you can catch them along the shoreline with a dip net. I'd be concerned about your trap walking away though.

I pictured crabs around the docks like crayfish up here. Were staying right at the marina area, so was just gonna put trap out at night and go chrck it first thing in the morning. Just trying to gather all info i can, so i can maximize fishing time instead of wasting time.

Bushwacker;

small crabs are great bait and what you're considering will work.
You might keep a close eye on the trap, as they grow legs sometimes.

yeh traps seem to grow legs late at night no matter where you leave them. Save yourself the trouble, get you some live shrimp and have a good time
