Default BW tonight anyone?

Not really expecting anyone to join, but the offer stands. I plan to go right after I get off at 2300 and hit a basin or two with the fly rod. Tide is about right, weathers nice, and I like eating fish.

I went, weather was perfect with some cool looking mist rolling on the water under the lights. I threw a shrimp fly only and came home with a 20 and 24 inch red and 3 small striped bass. Not bad for an hours worth. I haven't caught a keeper speck this whole year!! What's up with that?!

Sounds like a nice evening. And on the fly too

How do you rig your fly line? Do you whip it like a trout fisherman?

When I was a kid, my stepdad and I used to troll along the lily pads along the banks of the Black Creek in Green Cove Springs, FL, fishing for bream. We didn't whip it overhead. Instead, we rolled a loop along the surface of the water to a 6' mono leader with only a hook and live cricket. Kind of like whipping a loop in a garden hose that you're trying to unkink. We'd bring home 50 bream on a good day.

I'm not that good at casting a lure close to a dock, but with that flyrod, I could put that cricket onto a postage stamp from 15 yards away. Fun times with Ed, rest his soul.

I whip it, and whip it good

It was rigged wrong actually, still set up for a Spanish trip that never panned out, with 4 feet of a tapered leader tied to 4 feet of 20 lb fluro. Not the best action but a fast shot would get it to stretch out fine. With dock lights, if they're biting, it almost doesn't matter.
