Default Blackwater Fishing

If I go fishing on Blackwater in a canoe what can I expect to catch? What kind of baits should I take? Leaving from pensacola where should I put in at? Thanks.

Most all southern fresh water species, except Crappie, in the river and Spotted Sea Trout and Redfish in the bay - when they're present. Where do you intend to launch???

From Pensacola, you can launch at public ramps in Bagdad or Milton. The Bagdad ramp puts you just south of the mouth of Pond Creek which allows you good access to the river and the creek. Milton has 2 public ramps at Carpenter's Park. These 2 ramps provide a large bayou type setting in "no wake" zones - peaceful - and access to the river. Both these locations are popular with kayaks and canoes. There are other public ramps but these may provide what you're looking for.

License... It's NOT THE WATER YOU FISH IN - IT'S THE FISH YOU HAVE IN YOUR POSSESSION. But yes, launching in Milton, you'll be in fresh water. But you can catch Spotted Sea Trout and Redfish there but you can't keep them if you have only a fresh water fishing license.
