It looks like it's going to make a eastward turn at the end of the forecast track. But that is estimated at the 4 day mark. Anything past 2-3 days in forecast can change dramatically a lot of times. If it does indeed take an eastern turn, it's going to be a timing thing on whether we see an effects.

Hopefully it's going to the east but if not it's just enough force to make a mess .

Well I'm in Cancun Mexico on vacation. We leave Sunday at 2PM. If my calculations are correct Ida should be about 75 miles from Cancun when our flights leaves. (maybe leaves). Northwest Airlines would not move our flight up a day without charge unless there was a weather allowance, which there hasn't been one yet, so we'll see what happens tomorrow! Wish us luck! Ken

Once Ida crosses into the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday night, the storm will encounter much cooler SSTs and a strong trough of low pressure that will dump cold air into the storm and bring 40 knots of wind shear. This will cause Ida to lose its tropical characteristics and become a powerful extratropical storm with 45 - 55 mph winds. It is highly unlikely that Ida will hit the U.S. as a tropical storm, but it could still bring tropical storm-force winds of 45 mph to the coast next week as an extratropical storm.

I'll have an update later today, or on Sunday morning.
