I need to buy or make shutters. I was stationed here from 04-07 and now that I'm a first time home owner, I view my dwelling a little differently. On that note, I have a question for you guys that have wells. I'm on Chumuckla water but apparently I still have a well on the property. I just need the pump, tank, and associated plumbing. Is it worth the expense to install to have that water IN CASE they shut it off?

To me it wouldn't be worth it JUST for hurricanes. Chances are if your water is shut off, then your power is out as well. No power= no pump. So now you are shelling out all the money for the well, and for a generator, and all the associated maintance. We didn't have city water for my first 20 years. We were out of power a combined 3.5 weeks with Erin/opal. I would have taken city water any day....now with that being said, if you would like a well for any type of irrigation, or other reasons, then it may be worth it in your situation. But in my opinion, I would never do a well ONLY for hurricanes.

If you live right on the water be concerned about storm surge, the storm needs above 80 degrees to really increase in intensity. Yesterday orange beach buoy read 80.1 degrees. I still say away from the water power failure, debris blowing around, trees going over or wooden fences being blown over will be the major concerns. We will know in a day or so.

I'm in Pace, nowhere near any water other than the ditch by the road. I do have some big live oaks but they made it through Ivan and Dennis apparently. My place was built in the 60's and has all original windows, etc., which bothers me. I do know that the roof was replaced as a result of Ivan, so maybe that won't be an issue.

I'm gonna lower the shutters. I haven't got to see what it's like to live in a bat cave yet.

I raised a buddy's boat on the lift. I think he's gonna regret not coming down and getting it.

Many boats end up into the roof of lifts during these events!

If you can get it out and onto a trailer it's wise to do so! Also many insurance companies stipulate that if it's a trailer-able boat and you don't get it out on a trailer and out of harms way, they are not paying!!!!

Supposed to be building to over 20 footers this evening.

The 6’ storm surge for Pensacola was a joke. The water never got over my dock. If it had I and my neighbors wouldn’t need dock repair. My girlfriend stayed up all night to see her first storm. I was snoring like a bear.

I would wake up and look a couple of times. Nothing exciting.

Perdido Key. About a block from the Flora Bama. The boat floated about 6 inches forward on the lift.
