Default Gustav Forms

We now have a nice sized hurricane Gustav. Track models below should automatically update and be the current model runs.

Here is a animated NHC forecast. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2008.../loop_5W.shtml

Telum Piscis (8/25/2008)Hopefully a high will build from the west and move inour area next week and keep it away from us. Fingers crossed.
Just curious...Should a high form over our area, would that turn Gustav up into the Atlantic or would it push Gustav more on a westward track??? Time for our lovely Fay to move on out so that high can come in. Thanks!

It depends on where the storm hits that high. If it builds and is place by the time it wants to make that northward turn, it will keep it on a westward track into Mexico or Texas etc... If the storm moves into the gulf and then the high moves in, it could force a northward turn right into us or push it back to the east. All kinds of senerios could happen really. Looking at the steering currents today. I would think that the storm is going to go on route south of Cuba instead of on the north side like the NHC center has it now.

This is the current steering currents out there right now. These change from day to day. But for now the steering currents are going to want to take it west at some point. And then when does it make a northward turn if any is the ultimate quesiton.

This isthe most recentsteering current for a TC (tropicalcyclone)of pressures990-999MB. Gustav is currently at 996 MB

Nicely formed hurricane Gustav formed early this morning. THis thing looks to miss land too and shoot the gap between the Yucatan and Cuba. From a historical perspective, it's never good when it shoots that gap.

They're saying a 20% chance of it turning into a Cat 3 by Sat 2 AM on the wind speed prob charts. Even if it doesn't hit us direct, it could still suck for us. I JUST GOT BACK from taking the planes out of here last week for TS Fay-ke...:banghead
