Default Trouble with boat

Today I launched my boat and the engine fired right away. I backed the boat off of the trailer into the water and pressed the throttle button to rev. After I backed to neutral, it ran for a few seconds and everything shut down. At this time, all the lights to the dash and all guages went out. I checked all the fuses and went under the dash and all wires were connected. The trim works still on throttle arm and there is still full power going to all switches and radio. Does this sound like an ignition switch problem? Everything works except things associated with turning the key on. Is there a few in the ignition switch itself?

Default RE: Trouble with boat

I'm assuming you have a stern drive. Either way, see if you have 12v going to your keyswitch (red wire) if not, trace it back to the breaker on motor. if the breaker or fuse that supplies the switch has 12V output, trace the wire to the switch to find the open in the circuit. If not you have an isssue with the breaker or fuse or before that. If there is 12v on the red wire connected to the switch, switch it to the run position & see if you have 12v on the purple wire. If not you have a bad switch. Good Luck!
