Default Timing base

Is it common for the trigger in the timing base to go out on a 99 Johnson 225 looper?? Iíve tested with multimeter and I have no power coming out. Pulled the flywheel all magnets to include center magnet is good. I have no spark and have tested everything and the only not reading is the timer base. Iíd hate to sped $300 and it not be my problem. Also do any of you all know of a boat motor junk yard where I might be able to get a used one to try it before I spend that much on a part thatís non returnable? Thanks for any help!!

Yes the timer base and the power packs are notorious for going out. I can come by and verify it if you would like. I'm actually installing a timer base on one as we speak.
