Default 2005 Yamaha 150 4 stroke question

I recently purchased a boat with an 05 Yamaha 150 4 stroke. The engine has 645 hours and I have been very pleased with the performance. I have replaced foot oil, added new spark plugs, and decided not to change the engine oil as it was changed shortly before I purchased the boat. My question is about the timing belt. The belt looks good but I have no idea if it was changed by the previous two owners. What I found on line says it should be changed every 5 years or 1000 hours. Does anyone know if this is a forgiving or non forgiving engine if the time belt were to break? Thanks

I have an 05/06 with over 1200 hours. Orig belts, no major problems with regular maintenance. 100 hours service etc. Very forgiving.

These are non interference engines. Unless there is obvious wear, stick to the recommendation and change it at 1000 hours. 5 years in my opinion is to soon.
jgraham154 and holicori like this.

Preston suggested I change mine out, I think it was at 1100 hours, about the 10 year mark..... When he did, they both looked brand new, no cracks or any signs of wear. To be honest, I made the joke, to make sure he put the new one on, because they old and new looked the same.... but for those that know me, I'm a maintenance freak. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.... Most of the time, I overdo the maintenance gig...
