A couple of things come to mind.
In the summer of 1976 I was working as a laborer on the new Bay County jail. It was something like 7 stories tall. I was mostly grinding concrete columns smooth.
The way it was built, there were 3 levels and there was a "patio" on top of the 3rd level, then it went on up to 7 stories.
I was hanging outside the window hooked on a safety line grinding down a rough spot on the outside wall.
I got done, came in and walked into the next room. Just as I did, there was a loud crash and dust and debris came flying out of the room I was just in 30 seconds ago.
They were setting huge concrete sections of wall up on the top floor and one broke free, fell and crashed thru the roof of the room I was just in.
I looked in there and the room was full of big hunks of concrete. There's no way I would have lived if I had been in that room.
Another time back in the 60s, I was about 10 in Joplin, Missouri. My family pulled up to the front of a store (kind of like WalMart) and let me out to run in and get some arrows. I had just gotten out of the car and had walked a few yards when a car came flying thru the parking lot, hit our car which jumped the curb and barely hit me. The car then went thru the front of the store. I was just far enough away that all I got was bruises. A few feet closer and it would have killed me.

Aside from the wife and kids of course I have a few that come to mind. Biggest one I guess is the wife entered us into the wlox dream wedding contest a few years ago and we won it which gave us a full wedding honeymoon and all for free. Another was this past hunting season I was crawling through a huge briar thicket and gps fell out of my pocket. No possible way to end up crawling back in the same line but I tried for 5 hours to find it but couldn't. 2 days later I shot a buck that ran into that briar patch and as I was blood trailing it found my gps right in the blood trail and the deer 10 ft further in. Don't know if I was happier to have the deer or a lot of numbers that I had in the handheld but hadn't written down or put in the bigger unit in the boat yet. Last one was when I was maybe 6 years old give or take and we had a big 220 window unit. Dad was outside about to weld something and the plug for the ac was the only 220 line the cord on the welding machine would reach. So I was sent in with the cord to plug in but had to unplug the ac first. Got it about half way out but couldn't get a good enough grip to unplug it all the way so I wrapped my fingers around it to grab it better and both hands touched the posts that were still plugged in. Sat there tied into it for what seemed like forever but prob only a couple seconds till luckily it threw me across the room with no damage except a bruise where I hit the wall and a few blistered finger tips.

My parents did not let me go to the Mobile Fair with some friend because I got in trouble when I was 14. My friends had a wreck that killed everyone in the back seat where I would have been sitting.

I got hit broadside by a train going 50mph while driving an 83 Ford Ranger and walked away from it.

Married a gal that likes the beach as much as I do! Always pestering me to load the kayak and take her to the water. 'Course I always say yes even though we live in Dallas!
