Always keep your ear open during the year!

If she casually mentions something she likes, then take a mental note! 5 months later if you remember it for a gift idea.....then you get prove that you listen, you care, you're thoughtful, and you want to make her happy. That's how its done. Blindly rushing to the mall a week before the occasion is a one way ticket to the dog house.

If you're going to spend more than a grand, you might as well enjoy it too....

One caveat here though, they still expect some sort of gift. Mines usually happy with a little additional spending money.

When buying my wife a gift my goal is very simple ... try to make her happy. I know it sounds basic but it works. You guys have obviously been married for a while and after reading your posts for several years, it appears that ya'll enjoy spendig time together. Also, by reading a bunch of your posts, it seems like you are an observant and generous person. With all that being said, I think that you have a good idea of what makes your wife "happy".

My wife and I just celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary and we took our second trip to the Henderson Park Inn. This quaint little bed and breakfast is located on the eastern boundary of Henderson Beach State Park in Destin. The accomodations are 5 star, they treat you very, very well, dinner in the restaurant is probably some of the best food you will eat along the gulf coast, and the breakfast, which is included in the price, is off the charts!!!! I would think that most anyone would enjoy a long weekend spent there, I know we sure did. Might want to check it out. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to send me a PM. Oh yeah, request room 309 in the newer building. You have amazing views to the west and the south. Amazing place .....

What to buy: 1) jewelry even if it's ugly she can still tell her friends. 2) a spa day with a friend. 3) a spa/night at a hotel with a friend. 4) flowers/dinner/chick flick.

What I shoot for is not to hear about how bad my gift was later when hunting dues come up.

sorry to derail, but...
OMG, Hilarious !! I literally snorted when I read this.. Thanks for the great laugh !
