Default Weber grill Modification! Cool.

So I have used my Weber grill for about everything but have always loved making ribs on it. Till now It took some real effort to not burn a side of them. So I started making a kind of wall out of Foil to deflect the diret heat and it worked ok. But a made this set up last weekend and it ruled. I cut a few of the grll rods , cut a piece of sheet metal to fit and split the grill right down the middle stopping at the bottom grill where the Coals are and going above the cooking surface about 4 inches to protect the ribs from charing but allowing indirect heat to flow through. Worked great . Also cut have the grill surface out on the coal side to add coals as needed without removing the whole grill.

Outstanding idea.
Now watch & see how long it takes for Weber (or some one) to see this & put it on the market.

That's exactly what ended up happening. I went to Lowes just to get the metal sheet and when I went to get the new grill surface the replacement was way better then my old one. It has to hinged sides so you can add charcoal or wood chips to the fire, so I used the old one to hack up. I did realize one thing that would have made it much nicer and easier. Instead of cutting 10 pieces of the grill surface to slide the tin into I should have cut one slit in the tin and extended the part of the sheet all the way to the sides of the lid by making curved cuts to form. That would have made it much stronger and effective.
