Default Toshiba Satellite HELP NEEDED...

Toshiba Satellite

Win 7 under a year old...
Symptoms...
Began by lagging and freezing needing restarted...

Has been doing a thing where she holds down "0" when turning it on in the past when she had problems... (yes we won't go there)...
Currently it quits part way thru restart and goes to black screen with mouse arrow.

If she tries to restart it in regular mode it just goes to a black screen of NS-DOS look it states "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"

What can we do and what happened? Is this a virus caused issue or a hardware failure... BTW, her battery has been down for some time and only running on the cord...

sounds like the hard drive possibly. you can download a linux boot disk and see if you can read the drive.

Brent,

I bought one of those a few months back and just recently got an update notice from Toshiba about a patch to fix a problem simalar to that. My daughter's dell also had a drive partician from the factory that allowed you to restore the machine to the factory specs, it was accessed via the f8 key on startup and then use the repair features. I'm not sure if Toshiba does this or if that is an viable options for you.

im thinking harddrive or currupt windows which can be caused by different things. If you are located in milton i can take a look at it for you .

Here are the details...
When it trys to start it does fine at first, says "loading files" then says "starting windows" the colored balls come together and make the windows logo then when it finishes, it is a black (obviously back lit not power off) screen and only thing working is mouse pad moving the cursor arrow.

I am ready to try it all...

No disk came with it. I was going to order one but c-card is dry until monday.
I am in defuniak... I have gone thru the bios and reset the defaults.

I was on the phone with microsoft and he did a conference call with toshiba...
Toshiba guy tried to blame hard drive... ms guy called his bluff saying we need a disk first.

Okay, i think I am pinning down the issue...
I opened the Win boot mgr with the "press and hold zero" I was doing with the india tech support and toggled the menu funstion and found this...
File: \boot\memtest.exe
status: Oxcoooooof
info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt...

Next?

I think your best bet to getting it running is a fresh windows install u have the cd key under the computer do u should be good.

its either corrupt windows or a faulty harddrive im thinking windows .
