OK here we have an idiotic and criminal act. No doubt.
Was just in Biloxi and saw something interesting. What you see below is how they dealt with the loss of many magnificent and historic oak trees after Hurricane Katrina. Instead of marlin and dolphin I can see an eagle and tigers and (well no bears). Just a thought. The "After" is awesome but scroll down to see the "Before". |

If those trees die we should find a way to get this suggestion to somebody at Auburn that could do something about it. Great suggestion!

If the trees die, they should be harvested and the wood used in promotional items to generate the large amount of funds that will be needed to remediate the affected soil -- and the relocation and trasplant of a mature Live Oak and root system (if that is even possible) to the site.
I honestly hope that more felony charges will be filed in this case (at the state and federal level) -- and that the DA/Prosecutor doesn't deal it down to a misdemeanor. A huge fine along with a respectable prison sentance is warranted. |

The sculpture idea is a good one, IMO.

This is wrong! If they die I think they should cut the tree up and burn AU 2011 national champs in the wood then coat it with polyurathene and sell it. I bet it would make millions. I guarantee there will be recorded cameras on this corner soon.

Ok I give up! What was the idiotic and criminal act? Are we assuming that tree was still alive? and rare? and endangered? and legally protected?

"Idiotic and criminal act" = the jackass who poisoned the two trees at Toomers Corner, not the tree in the sculpture. |

If the trees die, I'd hope they be replaced by as big an oak tree as possible. I've seen those sculptures. They are cool but don't last more than a few years.
As least in an application with little or no care. If I were a 'barner, I'd prefer the tradition of the live, live oaks. Generations of 'barners have celebrated under those trees. It should be restored, even celebrated if it happens after a National Championship. Strange that he was born in georgia, graduated from HS in Milton, then became a texas State Trooper, then retired in 'bama and became a HUGE 'bammer fan. He even stated he knew nothing about the 'bama auburn" rivalry in texas till a buddy sent him a copy of a Birmingham newspaper that he said stated that the 'barners celebrated the Bear's death by rolling the trees. He said he even kept a copy of that newspaper. Why would a non fan keep a copy? Either he's been a 'bama fan his entire life, or became a fan when he moved to 'bama and hung out with "bama buddies". Either way the story of the kept newspaper is a reality only in his own mind. I'll bet we will see no such story was ever published. He simply made it reality after hearing it so often. Dunno which but his love of 'bama became pathological to say the least. WIERD , sad man... I'll bet he gets a fine, probation, anger management, and "time served" after a plea deal unless some "watershed" thing comes out from the EPA. I think that's a little light, but I'd not argue a whole lot. A "victimless" crime except emotionally. I'd move out of state though. Jim |
