Default Surfer vs. Fisherman

I am not posting this to be mean or partial to any party.. I am just curious. . .

At the Okaloosa pier the other day, there were people fishingtoward the shallower end&andthere were lots of surfers out there too... well, a person threw out a line from the pier& hit the surfer - I don't know if it was intentional or accidental - but the surfer got angry and started cussing the fisherman.

My question is: Are there any surfing rulesaround here? Reason I ask is because where I'm from there arerules stating thatsurfing cannot take place within anywhere from 200' to 500' of a pier & jetty (depending on which beach you visit). You also can't surf in "heavily populated areas".

Are there such rules here? Isurf too, but I guess the NC rules are so burnt into my head that I still tend to stick to them even here. lol.

Yes there are laws restricting them from getting too close to the pier...I'm not sure what the distance is...its not far enough either way..

back when i was 13 or 14 i got b*tched out by a surf fisherman because i was "surfing too close to his lines." the guy had to be atleast 40 too. pretty sad to be cussing out a little kid for having fun. i felt bad for his son -who was around my age, you could tell he was embarassed.

not too sure about okaloosa... pensacola, you're allowed to surf as close as you want on the west side of the pier, but you must be 300 yards away on the east side...

personally, i've had to cut lines before just because some asshole thinks it's funny to throw at surfers...:banghead

Not to be an ass here, but it is a freaking fishing pier... not a surf by it pier... people pay to fish the pier.... it is a surfers beware situation.... When the surfers start paying to surf beside the pier then they can gripe...:reallycrying

Ihave never fished on the pier but i feela surfer has the whole beach to surf on the guy on the pier only has about 200 yds. of pier. I feel the same way about people fishing out of boats around the pier. They have the ability to surf and fisher somewhere else the guy on the pier doesn't.

The O pier USED TO have signs that said stay away 100 yards, boats, swimmers and surfers. Unfortunately, some of the better waves are next to the pier, Murphys Law I guess, always a pissing contest.

No doubt, the surfers doesn't know how accurate those guys on the pier can be. Let the lead fly!

There was a guy surfing in the pomp hole a few weeks ago, definately not 300 yards from the east side (more like 30 yards). He got mad when we threw jigs at him...lets just say he got what he deserved :shedevil
