John B., I'm not calling you out on your numbers - just wondering where I could find stats on combat vets suicide. I've often wondered if Viet Nam vet suicides surpassed the number of KIA. Many, many of those boys came home toting baggage too heavy to bear.

Sure its not true in every case, but look into peoples past, sometimes one of the reasons of suicide is that people think others have given up on them.

There are to many factors to point a finger at the responsible party for suicide. Since vets were mentioned last, I'll poke at that un. We have vets that are kids, very use to life like video games about killing that trigger nothing in the brain. Speed forward to actual combat then seeing/taking an actual death puts a little reality into it. It jacks up brains. Heck, I've seen fellow LEO's that have quit due to the crap we see. It takes alot to overlook/overcome events in your life and my belief of if it doesn't kill ya it'll make ya stronger and I'm living proof. This world is full of coddling and as long as you coddle someone they will be dependent not independent!!! I have had family members wrapped up in this and partial is drug abuse/partial is mental illness. It only disgusts me when I see the aftermath of a suicide (families in crisis after the selfish act). I have spoke people down and it is a great feeling when you actually make a difference but then in turn you have medical facilities that cut folks loose instead of doing a little digging to free bed space.

As long as folks are turning from GOD and doing nothing but satisfying their own desires, it ain't gonna get any better.

This is so true that it is down right scary.
Just for kicks and giggles, go to church this coming Sunday. Better yet, come down to Yankeetown and go to church with me.

Depression kills or maims people of all ages. Love can smother depression. But for a phone call at exactly the right time, I wouldn't be plunking on this computer right now. That was 30 plus years ago. I can honestly say, Been there, but for the grace of God, I didn't do that.

I know some folks who do everything in their power to avoid friendship. Folks like that are hard to like. As Christians, we are charged to love one another. Heck, take him fishing. There is nothing like catching a few fish to get your mind off your problems. Almost any effort you make to help them is positive. Just knowing that someone cares is a huge comfort.

I usually feel that I am not equipped for the task but I can take comfort in knowing that, if God calls me to do something, He will equip me to complete the task. This ain't rocket science. Even if you don't know what to do, do something that shows you care.
