I'm sure you all have heard the old saying, "but for circumstances, it could be me." Recalls a brief time in my life, last year, when I had to resort to dire desperate measures. Fish on!

I have seen the guy that BoatJob reported on. He is faking stroke results with the dragging foot and the bent arm. I first noticed him at W and Fairfield walking down the grass roadside dragging one leg and with the bent arm (both on the same side). I happened to be the last in line for the light and I looked in the rear view mirror as i pulled away, and lo and behold, miracle time. He was walking back to the corner straight as a string. Kind of like the gang a few years ago on Navy Blvd that passed around a wheel chair and crutches between themselves.

This thread is a double edged sward for me. I am a proud street kid of Pensacola .
Lived in a box under the moving and storage bld on Navy Bld for 2 years before Vietnam

I have felt the pain , hunger , fear , and desperation of the homeless , yet also do not contribute to the street corner beggars
Yes these guys are mostly crooks , but it only makes things worse for the ones who anguish in the pain and silence I once endured.

I just consider myself lucky and continue my work

There is a law against panhandling in pensacola on the books a few years ago if you spot one you call the police and report him or her and they will take them to jail,,,but the officer has to see them in the act and you have to make a report on them at the police station...I did this once and no cop ever showed up I went to the store across the street and waited .As it happens a cop comes into the store and I ask him what about? the guy over there taking money from people stoping at the light. He says we cops have better things to do then fool with those people, there not worth the trouble, they will be back out on the corner by tomorrow. YEAH RIGHT, BUT TRY TO GO FISHING WITHOUT YOUR LICENSE ON YOU BY MISTAKE AND THEY WILL HANG YOU OUT TO DRY.......THE BUMS AND BEGGERS AND THOSE WHO DO NOT BELONG HERE HAVE MORE RIGHT'S THEN YOU AND I DO, BECAUSE WE AS A PEOPLE LET ASSHOLES RUN OUR COUNTRY AND WE CAN'T SEEM TO VOTE THEM OUT CAUSE THE NEXT GUY COULD BE WORSE...

It's not that they have more rights, it's that you have more money and assets, and therefore will pay your fines/court costs rather than go to jail, simply economics, now, I do agree that we have less than desirables running our country, the only way that will change is when people stop voting like they're trying to win the lottery and pick a winner, vote Independant!

the last time i gave to a bum was last year. i pulled off of 29 onto 9mile and there was a bum there. he commented on how nice my car was(i was driving my wifes car at the time cause my truck was hooked up to the boat) and then asked for some money. i told him, truthfully, that i didnt have any cash at all on me. he said ok and then said "well if you stop for lunch somewhere and come back past this way, drop me off your leftovers". i said ok and as i drove off i decided i would pick him up some lunch on the way back. i stopped by arbys and got him a meal. when i stopped to give it to him he was asleep on the ground. i honked my horn and he jumped up and ran the the window. i gave him the food and he was so happy and thankful and even told me "god bless you". i felt pretty good about the situation and felt good about myself for giving to someone less fortunate. UNTIL 2 days later i see the guy in Escambia County Jail View for 3 or 4 different charges of burglary, theft, ect.. it pissed me off so much that i did a good deed and gave to someone less fortunate and he turned right around and broke into someones business or home. i will never give to another homeless person again.
