Default Squirrel Issues

Squirrels are tearing apart the flashing around the vent pipes on my roof. Yes, they are tearing the METAL vent pipes apart, exposing the PVC that comes up.

I don't own a gun (shame on me) but I'm thinking about buying a small pellet/BB gun to shoot a couple to see if that scares them off. These things are so obnoxious, I think one flipped the bird at me the other day before he ran off.

I guess the other option is to trap them.

What would you do?

Chicken-fried with gravy over biscuits for breatfast is what I would do. Im not sure what you mean by "small" pellet or bb gun but a 22 with "cb shorts" dosnt make any more noise than a pellet gun and about the same power. If you got a 22 you would have a lot more gun. cb shorts can be hard to find but the last ones I got were at Academy.

Cause a .22 wouldn't be any problems with shooting squirrels on a roof.

Nowake speaks the truth. The cb's can be purchased in Long as well, but they are more difficult to find. They are quiet enough to be used in subdivisions if you are discreet. If you are using a scope, you will have to zero with the CBs as it will be off an inch or 2 from regular velocity.

Yes, I'm a little concerned about firing a 22 in the city. Here's an image of the damage to the vent pipe flashing.

yep, a miss may put a hole in your roof,,,
better to shoot from roof toward ground. Trapping them may be better, or rat posion. you may be fighting a losing battle here

I am involved in a youth air rifle shooting program that is a pathway to the junior olympics for high schoolers.

Today's air rifles are unbeliveable compared to the crossman pump air rifle that i had in the 1970's.

You are right to have concerns. you don't want the neigbors to know you are shooting the tree rats.

I have a pecan tree next to my house in the city of Pensacola that was full of pecans until a week ago...

The next year's crop i plan to try and protect. with one of these.

Gamo Whisper w/ Noise Reducer 1200 FPS, 3-9X40 Scope
MSRP: $299.99
Our Price: $229.90
You Save: $70.09 (23%)

find more options here.

After looking around for my neighbor (s), before I shoot i plan to shoot one squirrel and only one shot at a time. no matter hit or miss late in the evening or early in the morning... if one falls to the ground let him lay for awhile, so as not to attract to much attention to what just happened. within a few days should have the primary culprits thinned out or at least scared to try and eat the pecans.

Hate to be so stealthy about it, but there are some people that would not understand no matter what...and you are more likely to find them in an urban environment.

guess i will be going to renfroe's and paying for any pecans I eat this winter.

would be open to other options to get rid of them as well, but i figure the air gun will be nice to have if nothing else for plinking and target practice.

The squirrels at my house were eating everything in site. Including the plastic on the bumber of my truck. We trapped them and hauled them off to another location.

Once again this forum has failed a fellow member.

There's no need to comment on the original topic until the obvious, more pressing issue is resolved first.

We have a PFF member that does not have a gun??????? Lord have mercy!
