Default Something cool and easy for the kids to do...

I bought some praying mantis egg cases 2 weeks ago on the internet... One is hatching as I type... about 100 of the little buggers have free rein in my pool enclosure right now, because the paper bag wasn't closed all the way. Cool project for kids. Put a case in a smalljar with a couple small brancheswith aapiece of cloth rubber band tightover the toptill it begins to hatch, then take it over to your favorite plant and let them go. They only eat bugs...

Put some in your garage or shed.

Anytime your kid see a Praying Mantis around the house they'll know they helped it hatch.

They look like long skinny ants as they hatch.

A chance to "Be Green..."

And good for your garden...

I'm sure you would have been called a tree hugger by now if not for that procreation heavy title.

Sweet jim! We were over at my sister in laws yesterday for a BBQ, and ther was a male and female on the screen doing there thing.

And we got to talkin. And I felt so bad for the male. He doesnt even know what is coming. His first time ever getting some action, and he was soon about to die a horrible death...as the female would soon turn on him after the deed was done, and bite his little head off, and devour him.

Then I began to think of that in terms of human relationships, and realized there was really no comparison. The praying female mantis makes her move swiftly, and decisively. She does not prolong the pain in a animalistic sort of way, slowly sucking the life juices out of him. She ends his misery quickly, and with presision.

My sister in law asked "doesn't he know what is about to happen? How come he doesnt get away from her?"

I said there is not one living male praying mantis that is not a virgin. Every single one that has scored is dead. There are no experinced male praying mantis to spread the word of doom, destruction, and canabilism.

This really makes me sad. I believe a nother beer will ease the pain.

Good luck with the mawsaccare in our pool inclosure. Maybe the kids will learn valuable life lessons.
