Default Selling a car question.

Does the seller keep the license plate? Will a bill of sale from a private seller suffice for a few days for the buyer if the Police stop him?

1) In FL seller keeps plate!

2) Most likely...... with a properly executed title and proof of insurance.... and a story that you just bought it and are driving home. Don't think it's 100% legal though.

Unless you know/trust them, don't let them leave with your tag/registration and don't give them an "open" title.

yes and yes...never give up your license plate and it's hard to get a tag without driving the car to the tag office from a private sale...i know, it can be done but, with a BOS in my hand, time dated, i feel sure a deputy would let you slide...

Another question...

What's the best way to make the transaction? Cash is a little scary (counterfeit?) in large amounts. Meet at the Sellers bank and make a cash or bank check deposit? Meet at the Buyer's bank and make the same cash or bank check withdrawal?

Meet at their bank, cash only.

Well for me cash is king. Some people don't have bank accounts and in the day of BP checks, many are cashing them out. Go by an office supply store and pick up a counterfeit detector pen. They are fairly cheap insurance. Use the pen and check the bills for water marks, you should be good to go.

You keep the plate and all your personal info, ie. registration, insurance card. They actually should have insurance bfore leaving your yard or sight on the vehicle, most ins. companies have 24hr call center and with a vin they can get ins. on the spot. I think you have to have ins before getting a plate! As for payment, I always ask for a bank check, if need be I'll meet them at my bank and no extra fee for them or you. Good luck with the sell, what did you get rid of?

I had two quick offers, both wanted to pay cash for a low ball price and do it tonight in FWB, Crestview, or, from BOTH at Hwy 87 and I-10.

One by PM the other only by text.

Struck me as odd.

Jim

Meet him at his bank. That way you'll know the cashier's check is good. The bank will not issue a cashier's check unless he has the funds in his account.
