Default Selling boat and trailer question ?

I am selling my boat motor and trailer, I have my title for the boat, and the registration for the trailer, I know you don't need anything but a bill of sale for the motor, but am I supposed to have a title for the trailer ??? Looked everywhere and can't find it, so I am assuming I just give the buyer the trailer registration ??????

Your trailer might not be titled, when I bought mine I spent extra to get a title for it. You can just transfer registration also.

The registration should be fine. Make up a bill of sale that includes the trailer and the buyer will be fine in florida.

Florida is a non title stae when it comes to boat and utility trailers. I have always just typed up a Bill Of Sale and included the trailer VIN and the engine serial number on it. Never had any issues.

If the paper has kept up there should be a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin for the trailer unless it was homemade. Also, as a benefit to the buyer, separate the boat, motor, and trailer as three separate items on the bill of sale with separate sale prices for each. That way the buyer will not be required to pay any sales tax on the motor.

To protect yourself you might want to print out and execute this Florida DMV form. Then make a copy. Keep one and give one to the buyer.
