Default River Monsters/ Pensacola

Flipping channels and I stopped on this! Show just started and they were talking about they boy who got bit by a shark on fort pickens about 10 years ago (Jessis Arbougast?) And talking to the first responders who went to that call. Thought they were going to fish out of P'cola but they just told that story to build up the episode but they are shark fishing from land of the east coast of florida.

What a tragic story. Just a family out for a 4th of July day at the beach. That the boy even survived, is a miracle and a testimonial to the skill and dedication of first responders and medical professionals in this area. Four children in shallow water....2 1/2 feet deep and a Bull Shark grabs an 8 year old. Every mother's nightmare. The boy would have died right there if it hadn't been for the uncle wading out, grabbing the shark by the tail and dragging the shark onto the beach with the boy still in his jaws.

Freakin' Bull Sharks are no joke. We used to snorkel an old barge just outside the Pass to the West, and one morning I was there shooting flounder before sunrise. There was light but while I was down on the bottom, maybe 16 ft., suddenly the light faded and when I looked up, I had a Bull Shark above me blocking it out. I'm not gonna say how big she was but I didn't like the size at all. I also didn't like my position. She was between me and the boat and I couldn't stay down by the security of the bottom. Luckily, I had not speared anything or it could have ended much worse but I didn't shoot anymore fish, there, before sunrise. Those things just stay pissed off....aquatic, steroid monsters.

Tiger shark ? I didn't catch the show, but all the other shark shows I have watched have said that bull sharks were the highest.

I remember it well. Seems like they were from Mobile or somewhere over that way.
It was late in the afternoon when Jesse was swimming and the shark grabbed his arm. Around 7:00 I believe.
He was over here with his aunt and uncle. The uncle was a hero for sure for grabbing that shark and saving the boy's arm.
I believe it was not long after that a guy who was training for a triathlon and was swimming about 6:00 am got his arm bit off by a bull shark.
I believe that was over on Perdido Key.
The attack on the young fella was at Langdon Beach.

Jessie Arbogast is from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was 8 at the time and it occurred at Gulf Islands National Seashore at Ft Pickens. I remember all of the TV stations having RVs with antennas outside Sacred Heart. I don't think anyone expected the kid to make it. The uncle was a hero, the nurse who ran over with towels, as well as the doctors who put this kid back together. I wish someone would give an update on how he is doing. Last I remember was he was in a wheel chair but making progress. I hope that his quality of life is better.
