Sounds like (like me) you are at least pushing 60 and don't know much about carrying a firearm which (I would think )means you don't know the laws that go with carrying a firearm.
I'm assuming this is some small business and the owner wants a responsible person to be discreetly armed in case of trouble ?
Just trying to figure out what is going on here.
John, I am only 1 of several designees, all upper management, of the company - 150 employees in laboratories, manufacturing, sales, admin and shipping. My position in the company, and the location of my office in relation to the main entrance and reception desk, are the determining factors. And it is my responsibility in the company, head of legal affairs - safety and compliance etc, to see that the rules for carrying on campus are adhered to. I will also review other designees' fullfillment of the rules, etc etc.

Yep, I'm an old fart, and I don't know anything about conceal carry, other than the laws. But, I don't think I'm too old to learn. After all, sixty is today's middle age. I'm not offended - well, maybe a little.

I think I have at least 2 suspects as of this morning. A Glock 41 in .380 cal., and a Springfield XD-s in .9mm.

You would have to shoot it and see how you like it, but take a look at the Walther PPS. Very slim design. I think it holds 6 or 7 rounds of .40

Well, I think it's a great idea. Most companies are too worried about liability to be pro-active. They would rather we hide in a closet and hope for the best.
The Glock 42 is the .380 isn't it?
Might want to look at Kahrs also. I really like my CW9.

lol. You are correct. The Glock 41 would be my preference but a little hard to hide. The 42 is the .380, about 6" barrel and 14 oz. loaded.

The Kahr is a very good piece, and I owned one in a 9mm.
It is about the same size as a lot of .380's with more KAPOW to it.
Great choice.

Here is some homework for you, http://www.defensivecarry.com/forum/forum.php more information about concealed carry than you could ever read. For what it's worth I would not make a purchase before seeing how a hamerless J Frame .357 in a pocket holster feels and shoots.
