I am suprised that this is even an issue now. Miles has signed his contract extension at LSU. Then again, Michigan hasn't hired a new coach yet..........

Nothing would suprise me anymore. College football has become such a big business now days. WAAAYYYYY more than it used to be. All about $$$$$$$ now.

Yes you would have to say that ONCE NCAA football most likely supports 80% of ALL the other colleges sports, IE... Swimming, track, golf, lacrosse, volleyball, baseball ( some schools may be able to support thierselves), waterpolo, tennis, Chess, debate teams ( if that is a sport but WOuld fall under science or sports), ping pong, bowling, lacross, hockey, paying for the scholarships for the cheerleaders and GOD knows how much if not all of the band scholarships,Batmitin, Diving, softball and GOD knows how many other sports then yes................

You should be able to see how they pay someone so much to have a winning program in College FOOTBALL.:banghead:banghead:banghead

Don't tell me that ANY of the sports mention above would pay for themselves without funds from the Football program.

One of my most anticaptated games is the ALABAMA DIVE OR SWIM TEAM GOING AGAINST AUBURN....... HECK........ I would pay $200 to see that. LMAO.........................

Or how about a $200 ticket to see UT and Arkansas track team in the NATIONAL FINALS....... LMAO.......

I think you get the point. SO much talk about paying these coaches so much, including SABAN, but few realize how much they bring in.

Look at this. $40 a ticket X's 80,000 X's 5 = 16 million....... We are not EVEN talking about the concessions and the TV money. :doh Then again we are not talking about the NCAA money that the college gets for gear that they sale also. :banghead:banghead

I will tell you this though, IF I SEE ONE MORE BAMA LACROSS TEAM JERSEY I THINK I MIGHT PUNK. LOL........................

While I DON't disagree with your post, I will add that ALOT of money for the football program at places like Au and UA comes from the deep pocket trustees and donations. Ever heard of the Red Elephant Club? You don't think alot of those dollars went into the hiring of Satan?

You can have Coach "A" making 2mil a year at a place like UA and the revenue will still be brought in from the football program(people are gonna support that program no matter who is coaching it) or you can pay 4mil for Coach "X" and still bring in huge revenue from the football program. If Coach "A" won football games at, say, half the salary of Coach "X" then you would have 2 mil or whatever more to put into the university for other affairs.....

Nevertheless....the higher salaries are the trend now with the major college football programs so we know that money is coming from somewhere:letsparty

Bud, I agree except I'm not sure the REC used their money on Saban's contract. Four million wouldn't leave them that much money to pay the recruits!

Yeah, I have been hearing that they are buying all the Mobile players this year:nonono

Gonna be interesting to see how long they can stay out of trouble. Once the REC starts opening those checkbooks.........:bpts

They are supposedly getting a PLOI from the NCAA soon about something(not sure what)

I agree with you also in your post. If you take a look back wasn't it South Carliona who started this, not for sure but thinking so. Now Thier payoff is better then BAMA'S don't get me wrong. RARELY did BAMA not sell out, with USC that is a different case. As far as paying the coach and extra 2 million is NOTHING compared to what some of the alumni have to spare if you spread it over 10,000 people.

I'm not saying it is STUPID but it really is not that big of a deal to me. Hell, I think what some of the things the Yankees do is stupid but I'm sure the owner knows what he is doing.

What you are saying ONLY MAKES SENSE. If I can by X product for X amount of money and sell it for what I want why would I pay more. This is not a product though. BAMA HAS to rebuild AND, AND try to bring it's football program back to where it once was.

Look at whats happening, all the SEC teams are paying BIG BUCKS. We are proud of our football program and will hire who they think will get us there. Papa Joe or Bowden could request more for sure but two things are involved thier. Been thier for EVERY, Have enough money and coach BECAUSE THE WANT TO, and they have the security that they know they CAN'T BE TOUCHED.

Let PSU or FSU do either of the coaches wrong and watch the backlash. HELL, I respect both of them and what they have done for thier schools.

The way I see it is this:

The college, ANY BIG FOOTBALL SCHOOL, makes about 150 million off of the football program every year. They pay lets say 50 players, scholarships, about $20k a year or 10 Million a year. That leaves about 130 million left to fund the other programs and pay thier coach.
