Default Are Post Counts Important??? If so -- Why??

After seeing "Bob's" entry on the subject and him taking a stand (By hiding his post count.), I am wondering what other's thoughtson the subjectmight be.

For me...A high post count neither ensures that the post will be a good read or that the informationsubmitted will be helpful. I for one have read post by members with a single digit post count that were quite interesting. (Well you know what they say...simple minds are entertained by simple things.). I do not believe just because someone only offer "salutations and greetings " that they are some sort oflesser member of this forum. Nor do I believe, that a member which can express their thoughts in a written dissertation that only an abstained member of some "higher-level-of-learning" institutioncould comprehend is the cat's meow.

I have experienced alot of life. Enough to know that I don't know it all. That you can only learn if you are willing to shut up and listen. That sometime the best advice/knowledge can come from the most unlikey of sources. And forgive me for this one but, since I am a simple old country boy, The dog barking the loudest is not always the best dog in the pack.

Anyway, what is your stand? BBob

I could't really care about the post count, but I do really like the rankings that are associated. I.E, pinfish, grouper, sailfish, etc. I think that is way cool:toast

Great insight: I'll also add

The one that screams the loudest of their knowledge knows the least.

The people that provide exlemplatory service when they think you have no money are the people you want to do business with. I do this all the time on large purchases, intentionally "dressing down" and its surprising how easy it is to weed out who not to do business with.

the main reason counts can be important are:

1) Shows a newbie. More willing to give unsolictet forum advice to a person with a very low post count, like how to use the picture processor (on the old forum)

2) Helps identify spammers

3) Helps me identify inside or long running joke posts between members.

I don't see anything wrong with having post counts. I just don't think its a big deal to reset them when switching to the new forum.
