Default Pensacola is getting a AA baseball team

Its official that Studer has sold the pelicans and has bought the AA Mudcats. I am not sure how well they will do financially, but I would be lying if I said I was not excited about having a AA team here...here is the website for the Team that Studer bought...

I'm trying to be as excited as I can be about this. This league has 2 Braves affiliations and puts on some great games.

The only problem is Pensacola...... I'm a native... I love Pensacola... but our gov't SUCKS. They can screw up a one car parade.

Could be pretty cool, they're supposedly putting the stadium at the maritime park according to the news report on the mudcats site. I used to love going to Barons games when I lived in Birmingham, especially on $1 beer and $.25 cent wings night!

I found this on another local site:

"Great news Pensacola. Now who pays for the bigger stadium. A quick Google search says the minium capacity is 6,000, our current plans call for 2,800. Taken from Orlando's proposal: Potential (AA) Facility Program - the minimum number of seats to qualify for a (AA) certification is 6,000, whereas the minimum number of seats for (AAA) certification is 10,000 seats. Typically, (AA) parks have between 1,500 and 2,000 parking spaces within a 5-minute walk from the ballpark. These can come in many forms (shared parking garages, surface parking, on-street parking, etc) none of which we have currently available. About 200 spaces would need to be adjacent to the field to accommodate VIPs and handicap accessibility requirements."

Where are the plans for the modified stadium? If it takes as long to get the plans changed and rebid as it has so far it will be 2015 before the team can play. How many of the other selling points for the park will be modified or discarded in the effort to accomodate this huge change? Or maybe more to the point, will the park become a stadium only?

On the Mudcats' site, the press release says the Southern League is A-Advanced.

The PNJ headline is kind of misleading, I believe. The Mudcats are a AA team, now in the Carolina league. They are being moved to the Southern league, a A-advanced league.

EDITED BELOW....................

Sorry for the post above.....

The Southern League is AA.

The Carolina League is A-Advanced.

The Southern League includes the Mobile Baybears and the Mississippi Braves.

They will be having a naming contest, how about "Snappers" or "Red Snappers"?
