Default Pensacola to Crystal River travel advise needed

Heading to Crystal River to swim with the manatees. Do you travel 1-10 to 1-75, or I-10 to highway 19 at Tally.

I know the highway 19 route is 50 miles shorter. I have ran 19 several times from Clearwater, and each time I have said I would never do it again. The towns and red lights added a considerable amlount of time.

If you don't mind the lower speed and towns etc... 19 is a nice ride... Heck, fer that matter, you could stay off the interstate the whole way...

I cant give you any advice on the trip from P'cola but I went back in December while visiting the inlaws in Kissimmee (HAD to get out of the house!). Anyhow, the area is NICE. Manatees where every where as it was during that real cold snap in mid December. They were coming right up to the boat.

Oh yeah, found out the hard way that if its cold out, when the sun sets it gets REAL foggy due to the warm water. Be careful out there if your on a boat, lots of oyster bars. It took us nearly three hours to go from the springs to the boat ramp at the mouth of the river which is just about 6 miles. Had to go soley based on the back track feature of the GPS as it was so foggy we couldnt even use the spot light!

I-10 to Hwy 267 just this side of Tallahassee, 267 to 98 and 98 to crystal river. Don't go down 98 all the way unless you want scenery because of all the towns and slow speeds.

I 10 To US 19. I drove from St. Pete to Pensacola every weekend last year for work and its much faster and its really not that bad if I'm not mistaken some of the speed limits have been raised a little bit and most of it has recently been paved.

My Tom Tom says take 19. It'll be 6:15 enroute (383 miles). If I ask for an alternate route it takes I-10 to I-75 then off at Ocala and backroads from there. That'll take 8:39. (434 miles)

I 10 To US 19.

Side note: After you do the pontoon boat tour like everyone else. Go rent som kayaks and do it yourself! Much more enjoyable to do your own thing. The guides tend to be a little nutty about those sea cows. If you make the slightish splash when getting in, they will yell at you. If you touch the cow before they do, they will yell at you. If you make any sudden movements, they will yell at you. Get my drift?

Kayaks. Rent. Own Thing.

The Chicken Sandwich at ABC Pizza in Chiefland is worth going Route US19. It far outways the redlights and passage of small towns.
