I was at the 86 44.000 line in the intercoastal. The drones were to my east and south. The Patriot rockets came from my west and south. Both were close to the beach.

I was stationed just out side of Augsburg in a small town called Schwabstadl.
I can't remember the unit ID.
We were detached and assigned to guard the heads.
Comrade handled the rockets.

We were there at the same time, C 3/84 81 - 82. I was in a firing platoon at Artillery Kaserne in Neckarslum.

Spent most of the time in the field or on the combat alert pad. We had to gaurd the heads too, 2 hrs on, 4 hrs off, 24 hrs a day, 4 days in a row then one day off from guard duty. This was not including the 8 hr work day nor the 30 man reaction force that would be deployed should the towers lose sight of each other. And of course all the practice alerts.

Wasn't a whole lot of sleep going on during my days there.

They used to have a launch facility somewhere around Hurlburt Field, that's where they launched the Bomarc and where they used to launch those high altitude research rockets that would leave weird colored clouds in the sky right at dusk.

Don't know if they still use that facility but since Patriots are mobile platforms they could have been launched from most anywhere.

We used to go camping with the Pershings ALL THE TIME. I get a woody every time I see a camo net. There are 12,548 places on the launcher for the net to catch and it missed very few.

Then usually around 2am they would call an alert and we had to remove the net, hook up the launcher to the prime mover, drag it out of the woods, set it up and pretend to wipe out something over the border. All this in the pitch black night, no light allowed.

Whoever coined that the "cold war" was spot on !!!!!

Elke and the autobahn were my only good memories from there. Had a 81 Mustang myself there. Seems I remember about 2.3 marks per dollar. I tried all the motor oil looking beer and still drank Heinekein while there. They had some good wine though.

Also ran into a guy on the survivalist forum who was there the same time and place I was, different battery.

Did the Patriots hit the drone or was the drone a recon drone?

One of the off shore guard boats said they saw a Patriot hit a drone mid-air. Said there was only dust afterwards. Sea-r-cy
