Default Old mini TVs are now useless , correct ?

I've got a 5" black and white TV with AM/FM radio that runs on batteries, AC or 12V. I used to use it during hurricanes and also sometimes when camping. I've also got a little 2" battery-powered TV that I used to take to the shooting house with me when FSU was playing.
Since they went digital last year (or year before) it's my understanding that these TVs are worthless unless hooked up to cable or a converter which, of course, would ruin their portability.
Am I right ? If I am, they are about to become targets.

There are digital TV antennas that will work for them. Sorta an AC powered rabbit ears with a loop in the middle, or a converter box from the local cable company.

But yeah, mostly useless unless you want to spend $50 to make them work again.

Or until the crap hits the fan and all heck breaks loose. Then maybe that one TV station in Mobile, AL might hook up a generator and broadcast again on UHF.

They might still work with the Low Power Television Stations. The LPTVS were not required by Congress to shift over to digital. However, that does not mean that they haven't. There are 3 or 4 LPTVS in the Pensacola area. They are all independent stations.

I don't know if it would be feasible to adapt the "digital converters" to dc power. Other than that or using them as monitors.....BLAST AWAY.

Thanks for the suggestions but they all take away from their portability which is the only reason to have a 2" or 5" TV.
That's a shame. Technology strikes again.

They have portable TVs that are the size of cell phones now. I think you can even make a phone call with them. Those mini TVs really are obsolete. They have newer ones that have the digital thing built in if you are looking for something like that.

I've seen the new digital minis but I doubt that I will replace these. Really didn't use them that much.
Mostly used them back when the kids were in sports, I would take one to the ballfield if the Seminoles were playing or to a shooting house if I was hunting and the Seminoles were playing. The kids are grown now and if FSU is playing , I'll just stay at the camp and watch it on the flat screen.
