Ridiculous News Item of the Week:
NJ Toy-Gun Buy Back

August 22, 2011

(GunReports.com) A New Jersey anti-violence group tried to buy up children's toy guns to reduce Newark's record setting summer shootings.
Newark-based group Stop Shootin' Inc. held a toy gun exchange program this week. They asked children to bring in their toy guns, water pistols or cap guns and exchange them for a positive toy or a book.
Newark City Councilman Ras Baraka says more children and teenagers die each year from gunfire than from cancer, the flu, HIV/AIDS or other causes combined.
He did not comment on how many children died from being shot with toy guns.

That statistic that the Anti-Gunners always use about how many children and teenagers die by firearms each year is a joke. The number includes all the Gang-Bngers up to 19, or even 24 years old that kill each other off, the actual number of innocent children killed by firearms each year is actually much lower. Gun control groups and pro-control medical researchers often include "children" up to the age of nineteen and in some cases twenty-four, to inflate the number of "child" gun accidents. (This is the only way it can be claimed a child is killed everyday in a gun accident. Compare fatal gun accidents to the number of kids killed while crossing the street.)

That is a bit off the mark. But, I guess the intent is honorable.

Just to get some feedback, and not to start any pissing contests, what might be some ideas as to how to reduce deaths by firearms?

Do you feel that the use of firearms in TV programs and movies has any influence on people's use, or misuse, of firearms?

guns and thugs do not mix , however judges do not lock the thugs up for life when they use a gun for criminal activities. gangs are something else that should never be tolerated and the very reason we do need more guns

If the progressive liberals were seriously concerned about children being killed , they would end Abortion because the child dies every time and in far greater numbers. Over 40 Million and counting

Educate children about firearms from a young age. Teach them the proper way to shoot, and how really dangerous a firearm is when used in the wrong way.

Start by punishing Gun Criminals instead of (lawful) Gun owners. Lock up anyone using a firearm in the commission of a crime for 15 years. Convicted felons or underage thugs (under 21) caught carrying illegally serve 10 years minimum. Enforce the 10-20-Life law (in Florida).

Educate kids in school about firearms - it used to be that parents taught kids about responsibility and safely handling or owning firearms - guess the Government has to step in and fill the role of parents.

There was a sex toy shop in AL that wanted to trade vibrators for guns. Didn't hear how that turned out for them. I think it was about 6 months ago.
