Default Neighbors are whining...

So, my best bud had Santa Rosa County's finest knock on his door yesterday, to inform him that his neighbors are complaining about his boat. It's a very nice, very clean 20 something foot bay boat, and it is parked in front of his house on the street. Now, the neighborhood he lives in is a pretty decent size neighborhood, he lives on a side street that gets very little traffic. It's in east Milton, east of 87 on 90...

Apparently, his neighbors are bent out of shape as to where the boat is parked. He runs charters, and during the season, the boat stays in Gulf Breeze at a buddy's, so he can cut down on trailer time. However, from September until March, the boat stays at his house.

The LEO (which he actually knew) didn't exactly tell him to move it, but suggested it just to get the neighbors from bitching.

Here's the thing though. They rent, and have previously discussed with the property owner about parking the boat in the back yard. That is out of the question. So, they are left with parking the boat in the driveway, but with 2 vehicles, they still have to park a vehicle on the right of way.

This is by no means a narrow road, nor is his house on a blind curve, or blocking an adjacent driveway. This is just neighbors (pretty sure just one) who are looking for something to complain about.

There are a few other boats parked on the street, and around the corner, and a handful of cars as well.

No homeowners association.

So my question is, is there a statute or county ordinance that prohibits this? I have looked and can't find anything with the exception of "vehicles left 30+ days are considered abandoned"... this boat never sits in the same spot for more than 2 weeks.

What would you do?

Personally, I would tell the neighbors to piss up a rope, but I figured I'd get some advice for my buddy from you fine people.

Thanks in advance, guys.

Need me to drop off my boat on the way home. We can turn that road into a marina.

Exactly what I was thinking...

To give you an idea of what else goes on in this neighborhood, the guy on the other side of him regularly shoots pistols and his AR in the back yard... no backstop. The fuzz hasn't done anything about that... but they're gonna come out there for a complaint about a boat on the street? Crazy...

I would make it a point to be sitting in it every evening when they drove by just so I could wave at them.

Probably go shirtless too, regardless of temperature. I love people like that.

If it was an official "complaint" the Deputy would have instructed them to contact code enforcement.
The complainers likely know that deputy personally to some extent and called upon him to "do something".
So with the whiners peeking out their window, he stopped and made contact. Probably called them to say he read you the riot act and issued you a warning.
