Big Sigh!!!

I am losing the yard battle this year!

Bugs got me good, while my back was turned.

I don't have much problem with fire ants. When a pile shows up I sprinkle "Amdro" on the hill. sometimes it disappears but another mound pops up a few feet away. But after a couple doses they are gone. Both my neighbors let me treat mounds in their yards too.

Generally only see a mound or two a year. in the spring.

They are in Daphne, AL. Don't know if they go over to Gulf Breeze, but feel free to ask. 1-251-706-5090 I use the one in Birmingham, but my sister is at the one in Daphne.

Due to the heat and my crazy schedule I decided to hire a professional to cut it this week. STUPID mistake, I came home to a scalped yard. I almost wrecked pulling in the driveway. I filled the trash can full of grass clippings. Oh well thanks for letting me vent.
My lesson was learned. Just suck it up, and cut it myself once it grows back.
Shoulda got me to do it, i put a post on here about lawn care. Do you have St. Augustine?

Go natural! This area is not meant for a lot of the plants that we stick in the yard. My property is over an acre and a half so I have planted a lot of shrubs to take up space so that I don't have to pesticide/herbicide the yard and ground water. Besides, you know that you guys would rather spend time fishing or watching the games coming up on TV.

I was working in the yard ( I have a yard not a lawn) this evening and had a thought. Don't mean anything personal. With all the turmoil in the world right now wars, people who have lost their jobs and homes, children being starved and tortured to death and on and on why get upset about how short the grass is mowed???

No offense taken, some people are anal about their cars... who cares if a fender bender gets fixed, it'll still get you there. Some are anal about their boats. Same story, why wax the hull except for looks really. Some are anal about a clean garage (not me). Some enjoy gardening, when we are away we expect a hired "professional" to be just that.

In my case I consider it a "challenge" to repair his mistakes. I'm sure there's something in most anybody's life where the rest of us scratch our heads and say "huh?" under our breaths.

GOLF is stupid, football is stupid, but I spend money on both.

People "collect" stuff, guns, musical instruments, figures... etc. I don't get it bu I've got WAY too much fishing stuff too.

You're right, there are certainly bigger fish to fry, but I'll not begrudge a passionate man "venting" about his hobby. We certainly need diversions in our lives to make it through sanely sometimes.

When I fish I don't think about the crap on my life. Likewise when I'm mowing the yard. Now when I'm trying to FIX the boat or the car some negative energy surfaces because I'm not a good mechanic. I've decided to let other people curse while working on my boat or car nowadays.

Jim

PS... I spend maybe $120 a year for a nice yard... plus gas and energy to mow every week in the summer.

And all this time Jim I thought we were friends.
I know it's not the best thing to do but I keep my backyard, Centipede at 1.5" and front yard 2". The frontyard has a little thicker thatch layer. DP does this contribute to centipede decline I read a few articles that said it did.
