Honda Nightahwk 750 super clean low mile examples can be had for the low end of your $ budget. Very basic UJM (universal Japanese motorcycle). Simple, reliable, decent performance. If you pay attention to how you buy it and keep it up, you can own it for a couple years for VERY little $

Suzuki Bandit 600 a little newer, quite sportier, and a nice example will be in the middle of your budget. Popular bike you should also be able to own cheaply.

Yamaha FJ1200. Bigger than you need, and much faster than a noob should buy, but one of the best all around sport and touring bikes EVER MADE. Top end of your budget, but they are legendary for reliability and longevity. Maybe a good upgrade from one of the other two.

Me? I bought a Honda VTX1800. One of the largest and heaviest bike available. It took some getting used to, but I wanted a cruiser and fuel injection. Found this one in Pensacola Craigslist with under 4k miles. I've put 2k miles on it since Memorial day weekend and loved every minute of it. Good luck whatever you decide on

Nope, just when the itch hits me. I drive my bikes more than my truck. I'd love to have an H2 Widowmaker if the proper one comes along.

I have three hobbies, motorcycle riding, traveling and reading. I kept a Honda ST1300 in Colorado for years. To me, it is the pinnacle of riding. This is the first year I haven't been out there. That ain't gonna happen again. This is a photo I took last September around Wolf Pass.

I am in Maggie Valley at the base of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The leaves are starting to change and as most know, they have placed elk here and in AR. I've seen this bull twice.
