Default Need advise on computer purchase

My wife is needing to get a laptop computer for her work, and I am ignorant about computers. She will be primairly typing reports, and using the internet to look things up. She will need to connect wireless to the internet. I have a netgear wireless router that was given to me. What would be the best/ least expensive computer for her?

Thanks

Sam's has some good deals from time to time. I like Dells but you said least expensive and they are going to be a bit more that one from Sam's or even Wal-mart.

For her needs, even the cheapest of laptops will do these days. Check Dell's website for specials. They have a $499 laptop that will connect with wireless and do everything a normal pc user will ever need. The only thing I would upgrade on the $499 laptop is to add the DVD dual lay burner to be able to burn DVDs.

Also, something to consider is software. You said that she will be writing reports. MS Office, which has Word and other programs do not come standard with most PC's. So this will be an added price to consider to the total cost. Other than MS office, don't buy into any other software crap they try and sell you.

I just picked up a Toshiba A135-S4527 (it's on the sticker on the front of the laptop) at Office depot last week for $449 ($599 less $150 mail-in rebate...I'll see that in 3-4 months). OD cycles through models to put on sale...the one I got was on sale 3 times in the last 2 months - so timing is critical. Google it for detailed specs, but it does everything I need it to do. As mentioned previously, it's not heavy on software, but I only need MS Office which I will get from a friend.

I never thought about software, it has been over 10 years since I bought a computer, and that one came with office. I appreciate all the info.

Thanks

i am not a puter guru. that being said, all my experience with puters has been with dell. great product and great support. it's not the puter you need to worry about generally, it is the support. so what if you save a couple bucks by going to sams/wallyworld etc.... if you cant get tech support, then the savings just went out the window. \

If you go to the major makers websites they often have reworked computers for much cheaper. Just have to find them on the site. The savings can be ALOT and they will still be under the full warranty.

They may not be the lowest priced, but when it comes to tech support; TECH ADVANCED has good computers. Close to home when help is needed. With that in mind; they're reasonable.
