So why exactly is it illegal? Seems like a pretty legit experiment if you ask me.

Something is amiss

The image in your link is an inverted copy of the below image except that it is stretched a bit to distort it. The satellite image is of the east coast of Argentina and the Atlantic Ocean. Your article states the image as being off the west coast of Canada, you know in the Pacific Ocean.

A massive and illegal geoengineering project has been detected off Canada’s west coas-patagonia_amo_2010355-jpg

and here is the NASA link to the image...http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=48244 Which states that this is indeed an algal bloom but it is off Patagonia instead of Canada.

Just for shits and giggles here is the image from the article

Nope just stumbled upon it today. Good job on the detective work. The problem exists with the notion that we can engineer the environment as we want without knowing exactly what kind of positive feed back loops will occur due to our invasive tactics.

Yeah the satellite image struck me first. I've never seen landscape on the west coast like that. I understand what you are getting at and i share a similar sentiment but spreading garbage like this around does a disservice to that sentiment. I mean a gawker article? Come on...

Hmmm. So I take the entire article is BS. Great job, A/P.
