Default making a lateral move in the marines?

Has anyone ever on here made a lat-move and become successful at it. My recruiter says it's really hard for it to work out in your favor, is this true. I'm wanting to go into the infantry for four years then make a lat-move to being an aircraft or helicopter mechanic. Would it work out for me if i go in this direction?

Not impossible, but it'll be very tough. Odds are stacked heavily against you, especially trying to get into an aviation MOS.

If you do get a lat move, you'll be competing for promotion with guys that have more years of experience in the MOS.

Every Marine's a rifleman. If you decide you want to be a grunt later you probably won't have much trouble.

Army was my first career and i'm not sure it works the same as the marines but when you reenlist you could choose a different MOS based on needs of the Army. you might ask your recuiter if the Marines offer options at reenlistment but i would agree it should be much easier to move from Avaition maintance to infantry.
