go with the Ipe. And you will not find it local, unless Ozark Hardwoods could get you some. Cumaru is decent, but if you arent going to use Ipe- check paduck, bloodwood, purple heart, zebrawood, etc. also ...something high on the Janka scale. If you do go with the Ipe, take in consideration is hard to tool so use new bits, blades etc and pre drill. use mask and wear sleeves as noted when sanding or cutting. Its not toxic, but it does irritate skin and def lungs and finish with a natural nut oil. Its easy to get Ipe in 4x4x8's to use as the legs too. Extremely stout. Use 5/4 for top. most all those exotics come by BF so be ready to drop some $

I've seen some of those woods mentioned. When I was stationed up in South Dakota we had a wood supply house where I could get all kinds of exotics. I haven't seen a store like that since. There was one over in Panama City that I found while stationed at Tyndall but they only carried some of the common woods, cherry, walnut, etc... After moving here from Germany in 09 and then retiring last Aug I am finally starting to get back into building things and finding shops that carry wood that is funiture grade. Now my wife has a list of things for me to build.
