Now they are taking it from people who can't fight back. They already took away assistance from the professionals doubling the work load now they are taking $.

I'll add to that they are mostly out of sight, also.

The people being harmed live in group homes and have mental, emotional and/or physcial disabilities. There are several of these homes in the Pensacola area.

The occupants of the homes suffer from disorders such as down syndrome and cerebral palsey. They ain't fakin it.

Some can function productively in protected workshops, others cannot.

Some need to be fed and have their asses wiped.

It is shameful to abdicate care of these folks to Rick Scott.

If he can "put them in a soundproof basement" and keep the cameras out, he will.

Here's something for you Bullshark.........

I know we've disagreed on the religious topics before, but this topic is where I admit me & my Christian brethren have dropped the ball.

The churches have abdicated their responsibility of pure religion (helping the widows and fatherless) to the government... justifying it on the basis of we all pay taxes for that, don't use the tithe & offerings. If this is something the church actually did well, maybe more people would see Jesus's teachings at work, instead of just being preached, and would be drawn to Him.

While I'm rambling.... make sure we don't speak "smaller government" out of one side of our mouths and "why can't government fix this" out of the other..... instead "ask what you can do for your country". Government is not the solution to any problem.

Amen Brother preach on. The simple facts are we as a People, State and Nation are broke. You cannot spend what you donot have. Period. The proof is in the pudding and we are reaping our just rewards now, and it is going to get mighty painfull for a whole bunch of people.

I strongly disagree with both of you. We are not Eskimos. We don't cast out the sick to the tundra. Why is it the people who can't defend themselves? Why is it not the firemen who are walking away with hundreds of thousands of dollars plus their pensions? I have a family member who will soon retire after 20 years who will walk with 600k + 60 or 70k a year until he dies. That's absolute bullshit. We elected a man who plead the 5th on over 100 criminal charges because we are scared of bigger government. An PT uncle of mine took a 15% cut last night. My wife would have taken a 40% cut in pay last night. We are now staying here for good with good paying jobs which sucks and rocks. Now that my hat is out of the ring I just feel sad. Firfighters retire as millionaires and the disabled get nothing. Have fun with less government.

Economist have said that Florida needs to reinstate the intangible tax and that will more than take care of any shortfall. For this to happen I believe that we will need a different governor. I agree with you Bullshark, but my example is the ancient civilizations that threw defective babies off cliffs. Church groups are not able to card for these folks so quit putting the burden that we have as a society on them. Charity can only do so much.
By the way I am sorry to hear that you will not be moving back anytime soon. Last I heard you and the family had been burglarized and you were trying to get back.

So, I'm assuming you latter 2 are actively doing something to help the disadvantaged too? If so, I applaud your efforts.

However, for those have great ideas with what to do with other people's money, then I suggest you start at the house first.

Throwing money at things does not help one bit. People have to care and act.... and be motivated by something other than money. I've yet to find many in government that really care.

As we can all agree none of us like wasteful spending. Follow the pork and you can find politicians gobbling it up like crazy. A few years back Trent Lott wanted a carrier built by his state and the navy didn't want it.

As for the disabled that Bullshark brought up, this is a necessary expense. And, my family gives money to Manna Food Bank. We have upped the amount monthly due to the recession. We also donate to Wildlife Rescue and the Humane Society. If my checkbook was handy there are a few others when they come calling. So, we do try in our own way to help from the house. There are needs that charity can not cover.

I do wish these organized, Mega and TV churches would FIRST help Americans instead of sending their money out of the country. The Catholic church itself could fund the worlds missions for the unfortunate if they would open their treasure rooms.

I do think we could cut other things first before cutting funding for these people and allow casinos so FL money would stop flowing to Ms. Stop the waste and create jobs.

As a retired firefighter, 30 years in Southern California, I know what our retirement is. It is nowhere close to your statement. That is why I moved to this area where it is less expensive to live and why I work 7 days a week repairing boat engines and gears, just to get by.

You have been misinformed!

Please state the source of your information.

Firefighters put their lives on the line daily trying to fix stupid. We have earned our meager pensions and deserve it. Public safety is far more important than many government programs.

Government should provide national defense, public safety and roads and not much else. We voters have allowed too many politicians, do gooders and public administrators to line their pockets.
