A lot of the above MAY be good advice. I'd suggest speaking with a legal EXPERT before doing anything....even if the the posters above stayed at a .......last night. The law can be a funny/weird thing.

I had a rental house that was trashed. I hired a lawyer and we got a judgement but I have never collected a dime. The guy had young kids and the lawyer kept asking me for more bucks to pursue. If the landlord does go after you, it will cost him some money. I do agree with these guys if the place is not safe you should be able to leave. Maybe some of the realtors on the forum can give you information to break the lease.

I know it's really none of my business, but the first thing that came to mind when I read this was (where the hell does this guy live?)...........
Man, sorry as hell that your going through this....... Depending on where it is, you might be able to call the Police with your concerns and they will kinda cruise that area occasionally until you can get out....... Bottom line your one guy with one address, there are a hundreds of scum bags out there.... Like my Grandfather used to tell me, "Boy, get to steppin"............. Sorry again...............

The cops have come by an knocked on the door twice since we first got robbed. I have seen them drive down my street a hand full of times and stop at my house. My buddy is on the force here. I live in Homestead, Fl in a house that looks like it could be in a magizine. In a nice (looking) neighborhood with an average home price of $275,000. It's just Dade County.... I'm out of this house tomorrow.

The only way that it might affect your credit would be if the landlord were to sue, receive a judgment, and then record the judgment in the official records. He's not likely to sue for four month's rent.
Obviously, you will lose whatever deposit you paid, but safety for the family comes first.
You understand, of course, I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. -

What do you guys think of this. I just got a call from the landlord wanting this months rent. I have not paid them yet b/c they have been on vacation. Anyway they are offereing to alarm this and that pretty much everything which is not good enough to me. I am thinking of offering this months rent of $1500 and the deposite of $1800 to sign me out of the lease. That leaves them with 2 months to find another renter.

One thing about being robbbed...The first time is to case the place out. They may get a few low hanging fruit items but their more or less seeing what the need to come back with to get the rest. They will be back more times than not. May be a week or a month. $1800 is not worth my wife or kids lives or sanity. I'd try the 2 month deal like you said above. If that doesn't work I'd just have to take my chances abd move out.
