Default Home security. What's a mother to do?

I live well away from town and, up until a couple of years ago had no neighbors. Wouldn't you believe a guy built a house as close to me as humanly possible?

Anyhow, there have been several breakins within a half mile of me in the past few weeks. I have a fence; the ones broken into do not. Yeah, I have a gun and wife knows how to shoot.

I try to pick up my mail as soon as it arrives.

We have a garden and a large greenhouse. That might attract crooks when they are hungry.

What can I do for security? I do not want a dog.

Buy one of those signs you put in your front yard saying you have an alarm system.

what you don't want would be one of the best for security at least a early warning.....motion sensor lights, security system for the house....anything is better then nothing.....but my first defense is my puppy

Driveway alarm... Believe it or not the majority of criminals walk up the driveway. Cheap, simple and effective. Some models have a remote alarm so "they" dont know u are aware of them. And some have the siren built in. Just a thought...

Get an alarm and dont get wireless, get a hardwired alarm. I think they charge about 20 a month to monitor but its worth the piece of mind. Next put a sign on the gate that says beware of dog. You dont have to have a dog just get the sign.

also if there have been break ins recently call the cops and ask them to patrol your neighborhood that there has been break ins and cars cruising late at night that dont look familiar. I did that and the next night a neighbor and i were sitting outside at 9pm and a cop comes rolling down the road with his side lights on and his spot light going in between every house. They cant be everywhere at once but if you are having break ins i would call and ask them to up their patrol.

You can also post a sign that reads: "If you can read this, you're in range."

I've seen advertisement of a motion light that had a built in camera. Took a photo every time the light came on. Might not stop a break in, but you might have a photo of the bad guys. Sea-r-cy
