If I am home, and a bad guy comes in un-invited, and unannounced, then said bad guy is gonna have a bad day. I am more than a fair shot with both pistol and rifle, and a Combat Veteran. I am sure that should the time come to use my marksmanship skills against another person, again, then I am mentally and physically prepared to do so.

I do however feel that breaking in to my home does not necessarily have to be a capital offense, but the bad guys options are very limited. If I am home alone, and the bad guy obeys my orders completely, and quickly, and with out hesitation, then he may survive the ordeal. Now change the scenario around, and add my wife, and especially my kids into the equation, and the bad guy isn't going to be as lucky.

My wife is also a veteran, and just recently retired from the ARMY, and is a pretty fair Marksman ( or would that be "marksperson" ? ) her self. Her instructions from me are to empty the magazine into the bad guy, reload, check for a pulse, and repeat as needed. Any warnings she cares to issue are to be made after the above steps are completed.

Like I said, breaking in to a house should not necessarily be a capital offense, but for those who feel the need to shot first, and ask questions later, I fully support you, and have absolutely no problem with it.

Since he would already have breached a large wall and gates with no way to open except a family secret , killed some German Shepard's , tripped early warning systems and gotten though re enforced doors , he would walk into a trap and be shot dead while being distracted and never even see me.
more than one , I have options .
go to my safe room , down the bottom hatch , though the tunnel and out any of several spider holes .
then they are trapped inside while I am outside ,armed , behind cover , waiting for them to come out , and have reversed the element of surprise

do u really have all that shit at ur house

That's what you and I will do assuming a someone is trying to break down the door and we have time to get to our guns.

However, what are you going to do if you answer the door, during the day, and a guy is standing there pointing a gun a you?

What if you're working on your car with the garage door open and a couple of guys walk in with their guns drawn?

How many folks really walk around the house toting an arsenal?

There is no single answer to the original question. It all depends on the circumstances at the time.

Good Question Orion

There is no way to get inside my Parameter without ringing the door bell outside the gate and being escorted in ,after i have already looked you over and see fit.
My Defenses are layered , starting outside my 10 foot wall and solid gates
the wall to the left side in my Aviator is 10 foot tall , covered with Confederate Jasmin which hides Barb wire and SS Snares that will cut to the bone in the most likely areas someone would possibly climb and jump.

my door looks normal from the outside but is re enforced with angle Iron , five heavy henge's into a 8X8 and 2" Bolted custom built lock system. a big person would kick it for a hour before it would give , while I pop holes through it from the other side behind a heavy wall
as far as working in the garage , all Vehicles have Glocks and I keep security under foot with Jack FM Blaring without any concerns.
This may appear Paranoid , but I prefer to live without fear or paranoia in a safe home that is free from the unseen outside world.

My point is , you should be safe in you home and no one should be able to just walk up to your door or garage at all.
That is way to close for me. I want to know who is there and why they are there before they even suspect that I know and have prepared a greeting.
being a hard target is a good thing

BTW
Nice Dog Cathunter , He Looks Serious

I am with Orion, how many of you "ready to shoot" guys carry your pistol everywhere you go all of the time. From the TV to the kitchen to get another cold one? From the bedroom to the bathroom in the middle of the night? In and out of the house with trash? You get the idea. Now how many are really ready no matter where or when?

Not being critical, it just seems extremely important to me to have the weapon with you at ALL times, which is probably a complete habit change for the large percentage of us.

I pulled in my driveway (in calif) and when I walked up to the front door it was standing open and my front window had been broken out. I ran into and thru the house screaming bad words at the top of my lungs (unarmed). All my stealables were piled up at the doors, and luckily the bad guys had left by the back door when they heard me coming in. The LEO's said I was lucky because the bad guys are normally armed when they break in.
I was lucky because they didn't get anything. If I had been 5 minutes later they would have gotten all my favorite stuff, and if I had pulled in quietly I might have been killed.

If you live in the country or in a gated mansion, what you said is absolutely correct. However, most of us live in subdivisions where these measures are not feasible. As such, there are really no ways of preventing someone from walking up to your door or garage, unannounced.
