Contact Sky he's on the forum just can't remember his forum name. He sells them at Escambia Electric right near joe pattis he has great prices. I can't wait till I can get one they're awesome.

I saved about $200 from buying the egg and alot of stuff that goes with it from Hot Reels (Sky) on here.

i heard those things run bout 5-7 hundred. is that true?
i'll stick with my old backyard brickund.
if you can't grill, then the equipment don't mean shit!

Grill, bake, smoke, it is the best money I have spent period, worth every penny. A regular charbroil can't come close to putting out the food these things can.

If you ONLY want to “grill” then stick with whatever it is that you currently have.

If’n you want to step up to the real outdoor cooking experience then get a BGE. Especially if you want to get into some “low and slow” true Bar-Be-Que-ing.

There are plenty of good smokes out there, aside from the BGE, but with a BGE you have a wide range of temperatures that a BGE can successfully manage. You can go from a low of 225ish, to as high as 7-800, and you can maintain those temps with minimal effort. I routinely cook at 225, and can walk away from the Egg for hours at a time, with no worries about the fire.

For a long time, a pondered the purchase of my BGE, and looking back over 20 some odd years of adult cooking, a discovered I was replacing inferior products every 3-4 years.


Got my 1st grill as a young soldier at Fort Hood, Texas. I mastered the flame, and then the bottom of the grill fell out after about 2 years, no biggie it was a cheapy, and I was set to transfer to Korea in a couple of months anyhow.


Got to the ROK, found a metal drum, had the Battalion welder cut it in half, installed hinges and legs, a grill surface, and managed to keep it intact for the year while I was at Camp Casey, and finally it died and rusted away !


Got to Fort Stewart, GA, and thought I would “step up my game” and purchased a Weber Kettle style cooker. After about a year, the wheels stopped turning, and the legs would fall off every time I tried to roll it across my patio, then the doom lid got knocked completely out of round during an unfortunate incident involving too much rum, a mangy assed stray dog with no moral compass that I was trying to rehabilitate, and a pine cone chunking squirrel with bad aim…but that is an entirely different story!

So, after moving to Wisconsin, I went to Menards ( Home Depot style box store, common in the Upper mid west ) and “stepped up” again to a bigger, badder grill that last about 3-4 years, and finally died a slow death while station in MD. Funny part is, that bottom fell out of this one too, as I took the last burger off of the grill at our going away party, as we were preparing to leave for Texas!


Once in Texas I thought I was in hog heaven! Went to a dedicated outdoor cooking / grill store, and allowed myself to be sold a mega-bad ass cooker / grill! Stainless Steel at that! Still got it, but after 40-50 dollars a year in repair parts, replacing regulators, burners, heat deflector thingies, and who knows how much in gas, I got to thinking about yet another “ step up “

Well, one Wednesday night at one of the PFF’s Wednesday Night Socials, at the Oar House I believe, Scott ( Litecatch here on the PFF ) got to a talking to me about the BGE. Then Sky ( Hotreels here on the PFF ) cornered me, beat me up, hogtied me, and forced rum into me until I agreed to come see him the next day at his business ( Escambia Electric Motors ) Well I did indeed head that way, and went ahead and purchased a Large BGE, a long Cedar Table, a plate setter, and a sack of coal.

Took it all home, an unfortunately left the receipt out. The wife saw it and went absolutely stark raving bat-shit bananas! I suffered the wrath of my wife for about 5 hours as I slow cooked a Prime Rib Roast.

The wife came out side just as I finished slicing up the roast for round two of my ass chewing. As she opened her mouth for a gulp of air, I forced a fork full of the best damned Rib Roast either of us has ever had into her mouth. The clouds parted, a beam of sunshine came down upon me, angels sang in the back ground, and the best part was that my wife shut the hell up!

Anyhow, my wife now brags about my cooking to everybody she knows, and is constantly looking at meat in the grocery store, and asking me “ will this fit in your damned Egg ?“ I just smile and say yup, sure will, and it generally goes into the cart.

We do pizzas which will have a great “brick oven” taste to them, I have done Turkey’s, Roasts of all kinds and cuts! Pigs, Beef, Lamb, Fish. (OMG, don’t even get me started on smoked fish dip!! ) Steaks, chops, butts, shoulders, Hams as well as Pizza’s and even desserts, such as a Dutch Oven Cobbler.

Go see Sky down at Escambia Electric Motors, get a BGE…be a man !

Also do a search here on the PFF for Big Green Eggs. Lots of us BGE owners on here, with lots of ideas on how and what to cook on them. You might find a couple of neigh sayers, but I doubt any of THOSE guys actually own an Egg !
