Default Going rates on interior painting

Been arguing with a guy for a couple of days now about how much it should cost to get a house painted on the interior. Does anyone know what the going rate is ??

This is what I pay for new construction: $1.10/sq ft + $0.15/sq ft if the walls have heavy texture. The $1.10/sq ft price includes all trim, doors, and walls. Any trim other than baseboard and door casing is extra (i.e. chair rail, crown, etc.). The price is going to be more if it is an existing house, for they will have to cover up the floors and will probably have a significant amount of extra taping. I wouldn't think it would be any more than about $1.60 - $1.75/sq ft, no matter what the conditions are.

Is the sq. ft. for the area of the house or the amount of wall space? If it is the size of the house, then would ceilings be included at that price?

You should figure 1.50-2.00 per sq ft of floor space for an interior re-paint. This includes ceilings and all trim based on an 8 or 9' ceiling. Crown and stair trim and other trim will increase the price as will ceiling height in some cases.

I've got a great painter that needs work if you want another quote.

If you have the time, tape it all out yourself and get your buddies to give you a hand. Worked great for me and it only cost a few cases of beer, lunch and supplies....

I like what Grouper 22 said. I know of a time when we all helped each other and got it done. Now that the forum is bigger, who knows? There was a time when everyone helped and I am one that knows!!!!!! Hey grouper, long time!

Good ball park figure...12 x 14 $350.00 not less than $250.00

Or go the group rate...Tape it off yourself and buy the beer/food etc.
