If you must go, get a RV and stay in the campground. That way, at least you can escape the madness for part of the day.

When we started taking our son a couple years ago I found the following site helpful www.allears.net I would definately stay at a value resort. We usually stay at all star sports...Park your car at the hotel when you get there and don't drive again til you go home. The shuttles drop you off at the entrance to the park so you dont have to walk 1/4 mile from the parking lots and you dont have to pay the parking fees....

Thanks for all the replies...looks like staying on the property is the ticket. I've been working the numbers and there's not that much difference...plus I love the idea of getting the kids back to the room for little ciesta between parks.

The travel was less than 10 minutes and very little traffic. The time we stayed at the All Star Sports we stayed longer than 10 minutes on the shuttes back and forth.

A parking pass is good for all day at any of the parks too.

The Marriot has a lazy river pool, bellhops, vallet parking, 3 golf course, 2 resturants, Starbucks. etc.

It does have a shuttle but olny to Universal

+1

I have gone to Disney for thanksgiving 3 times with the wife and kids. We stayed at the Fort Wilderness camp grounds this last trip. We rented a log cabin and loved it. It's like having your own house at Disney.

My advice after 3 trips in 4 years:

1. Stay at Disney properties, their transportation is great.
2. Get park hopper passes.
3. Buy the Disney dining package, there are some great restaurants to eat at. Coral Reef, Le Sellers Steak House, etc..
4. Stay at the cheap resorts cause you will not be in your room much.
