My dad has the xl propane smoker think by masterbuilt from bass pro that I've borrowed a few times and it worked great compared to my offset firebox charcoal / wood log smoker. Did 6 slabs of spare ribs at once beautifully and maintained temp very easily with very little attention and used very little propane which was my concern.

I got one for christmas but haven't had a chance to use it yet. But so far I've been pleased with the same design smoker.

got one almost like it and love it. Has lasted 4 or 5 years. For the price, I think it is a great deal.

I have that exact same smoker. I have had good results on everything I've smoked on it. I am able to smoke 6 boston butts at once. It is big enough to do 4 slabs of babybacks at once. It is not big enough to do a slab of spare ribs without cutting the slab in half. I seem to remeber cutting a brisket in half as well.

Now for some bad aspects. I had to modifiy the wood box to sit lower (closer to the burner) than the design allowed. Before this modification it took forever to get the wood to smoke. It also leaks a lot of smoke around the doors. I have thought of using an oven door seal to prevent the leaks but have not got around to it yet.

Basspro shops has a wider smoker that is around $50 more. It looks about the same quality but doesn't have the seperate lower door. It would probably be better for fitting a whole slab of spare ribs or a whole brisket.

Overall I like it now that I have lowered the woodbox. Looking back, if I had known about the bigger smoker at basspro I would have spent the extra $50 and got that one.
