Flounderpounder (5/22/2008)Yep, I agree, we should be drilling. BUT blaming it all on the Dems. is a bit simplistic. Isn't our Governor a Rebublican? He is dead set against it! I could be wrong, but I seem to remember Sen. Martinez (R) supporting the Gulf ban????

Having said that, unless we get real, and ALSO include a MAJOR effort toward conservation and alternatives (yes nukes too) we'll only be delaying the sh*t REALLY hitting the fan. We should have started both strategies along time ago.

Tom, you think we could rig a nuke on that new boat of yours???oke

Man what a great idea Wes! Heck they run subs and carriers w/em! :letsparty

I saw who killed it, it was an exciting adventure in partial truths and fun leaps in logic.

they just didn't sell many of them for the cost. of course the oil companies don't want

it to happen but although they bought some patents they didn't eliminate the technology,

Honda would build one in a heartbeat if it were feasible, which it will be soon.

batteries are ALMOST good enough...

Still, I wanna see how the INCREASE in fossil fuel burning by powerplants is helpful to the US:doh

Solar cells are not anywhere near good enough to make a truly beneficial product viable

At least with most of the fossil fuels burned in the Power plants it comes from right here in the US. No more dealing with the wackos in the sandbox.

check this out....solar power is getting there.

http://www.colostate.edu/features/ava-solar.aspx

i have also read that hydrogen powered boats are being tested but are a long way off. I do think that we will soon have the ability to have very long life batteries as well. Stanford is doing research using nanotechnology to dramatically increase battery life.

Brent, my point was why crush the technology when they were getting close to making it work. Build off of it and continue forward is what I say. Why would an oil company buy the patens and rights to advanced battery technology? Do you think that they are working on a fully electric car for release in the US? If this type technology would hit the market too fast think of what it could do to every industry involved withor dependant on oil.

Of course car companies can build all of these things. That doesn't mean people would buy them...and that is the problem. Any car companycan build a car that will get 100 mpg....BUT would you drive it and would it suit your needs and can you afford it? To anyone that answers that they would use it and they would buy it then ask them how they like thier scooter....Now, you may not get 100mpg exactly but it is a damn site better than ANY car on the road, but due to the inherent dangers/looks/uses/costs most people will not drive them. There are electric cars and you can buy them. Zenn and Zap both make electric cars, you can go buy them right now....

There is another manufacturer in Ohio I think that builds a little 1 seat 3 wheel car, looks crazy and is electric...30K.

So, who killed the electric car????? People that refuse to buy them....

But, even though you can go get these things right now there are other restrictions that will keep you from using them. Like the minimum speed limits. Some of these cars only go 25 or 30mph and it's not legal to drive on most roads. Chevy didn't make them illegal. Then there is the range factor. If you can deal with the range then you can get an electric car...right now....

Or you can go buy a scooter...right now.
