Default Even more expensive to cross Garcon Point Bridge???

OK, let's think about this. Low usage is the reason given to raise, yet again, the toll on the GP bridge. It will now cost $3.75. Can we please find a rocket scientist to help figure this one out. Hey stupid...you have low usage because it cost's too much. Try reducing the price and see how many people cross the bridge. DUH!

Default ..depends on where you start , and where you are heading...

... but it could well cost more to divert rather than cross....

Apparently none of the price setters took an economics class. I havent used that bridge in years and won't till they reduce the price to .50 a trip. You can take a toll rd in NJ and go 40 miles for less than that 2miles. Try taking your boat over it....you have to fill out a loan application.

Depends on where your going but taking i10-scenic-3mile is only a couple more miles difference at most. Especially if your going to GB Hospital area.

At least they don't charge you to fish under it. Opps...maybe I shouldn't give them any ideas.

I actually HAD to cross it a few months ago to get to a funeral in time but guess what??? I didn't have any cash. No problem. They thought of that. Instead of simply getting a card reader, they have an easier system so that you can still pay to cross. The lady at the toll booth takes your license and your plate number and fills out a slip of paper, sort of like a bill. After the 2 minutes it takes to fill out the paperwork you get to cross. You then have 10 days to send a check in the mail to the bridge owners for $3.50, oops, I mean $3.75. If you don't send the check they charge you with a misdemeanor. Lots of thinking going on in the main office of that bridge.

FYI, using Google Earth, the following mileage estimates are obtained:

From I-10 and Avalon Blvd:

1. to US 98 via Garcon bridge - 9.6 miles
US 98 to Gulf Breeze Hospital - 5.6 miles = Total 15.2 miles

2. to I-10 and Scenic - 5.5 miles
Scenic/I-10 to 3 Mile Bridge - 6.5 miles
Scenic/3 MB to Gulf Breeze Hospital - 3.9 miles = total 15.9 miles.

IMO, the only reason to take the bridge is to save time, and probably that is a weak justification.

I think people would use the heck out of it if it was $1.
I've been across it twice back when it was cheaper.
I go from Pace to Navarre quite a bit during the summer. I would use it at $1 just for a change of scenery. As it is, I take Hwy 87.
I don't understand why they don't change it to $1 for a month just to see if it makes a difference. Probably something to do with the bond agreement or something.

i use the bridge only when i am workin in tiger point, if im working near 399 i will take 87 south and if im working near gulfbreeze i will take i-110 vs the toll bridge, i make the same amount either way and the money i save isnt worth supporting the bridge and their lack of scense to be able to pay for the project, each time they up the fee they further remove the value and time saveing lines they used to create the bridge and has thus created a massive impact on the enviroment from building the bridge and dumping their debris in the water..... tear the bridge down and everyone that use it learn it only saves a few minutes but not any money

I was thinking that same thing before I read what you had written.

Kinda of a "Special" so to speak.
