I recently installed an automatic chicken door on our coop. As the days are getting longer, I failed to keep on top of the closing time setting. One of my hens got her neck caught in the door, and in the struggle she ripped her skin open on the back of her neck. I can see her bare neck muscles.
I'm obviously not going to spend $150 on a $7 chicken, but it looks like it would be an easy fix...three or four stitches to pull the skin back together, some antibiotic ointment, and liquid antibiotics. It happened last night, so it will be too late to do anything before too long. Who has got some anesthesia and some sutures I can borrow? ![]() |

Other chickens will capitalize on her wound pecking it and making it worse fast. Keep an eye on her and separate her out -
I would leave it alone or maybe put some purple stuff on it. If it gets sick and dies you can invite the preacher over for Sunday lunch! Snagged Line and HisName like this.

Pull it together and super glue it . I'm not kidding. Then separate her from the rest like Kevin said.

That's gonna be a 2 person job, 1 to hold it---1 to swing the axe! ohhhh I mean stitch it up! I'd just use 4lb test and a needle.

I was doing the rebar for an addition to my house I was building, cutting it partially in two with an abrasive blade, then breaking it the rest of the way...leaving a razor sharp point. I accidentally cut a deep gash across the palm of my left hand. I super glued that bitch shut, put on gloves like I should have been wearing all along, then finished the rebar without it ever splitting open again. Good stuff. ![]() |
