Kenton,
I had this very problem a few months ago. The stench in our guest room was unbelievable. Of course, it had to be that this room is furthest from access, but oh well. I was surprised the attic didn't smell bad at all. In fact, I had to get within a few feet of the damn thing to smell it. The insulation really hides the odor I guess. It took me probably 40 minutes to narrow it down enough. Moved a ton of insulation trying to find that little xxcker. Finally found a squirrel. My advice is to block out an hour and methodically move insulation above the room in question. You can use wiring above the room as a reference for where you are. Top plates for each wall should be visible as well. Major pain in the ass, but worth it.

and if you fall through the ceiling while moving the insulation, you've got another project.
