Default COX vs DirectTV

Hey guys, I'm in need of some real user reports from the local area on these two services. Right now I have COX for digital HD TV, home phone and cable internet. I'm not really happy with the price that I'm paying for all three services ($150/mo) considering we don't get that many channels (only like 30 HD digital in addition to the regular non-HD channels) and our internet connection is slow as molasses in winter between 4pm & 10pm when I'm actually home and want to use it.

So I'm considering swapping to DirectTV for their TV service (and keep COX for intenet). They list a pretty good tv package on their website for like $34-$39/month that includes DVR service, and I'm paying $103/month for COX TV & DVR service +internet & phone).

I'd like to get a rough estimate of what people are paying for COX and DirectTV in the local Pensacola area and what their experience has been with either services. I really appreciate you all taking the time to write something up for me.

I have Cox Cable, with HD DVR service. I just counted 61 HD channels, not including the HBO's. I have the Digital HD TV service with the Movie tier (does not include the HBO's) which includes all the sports channels and the Encore Movie channels. I have no clue what the breakdown is (cable wise), but my bill is $166 a month with the $45 internet and the $15 Rhapsody (Unlimited Music Downloads). I also pay for the in house service plan ($4.95), and for 2 HD/DVR Boxes.

I do not have any personal experience with DirectTV or DishNetwork. My parents switched from Cox to DirectTV 2 years ago, and were dissatisfied to say the least. They had to wait out their 2-year contract. Last month they switched to DishNetwork and told me yesterday that they wished they had Cox Cable. Both Satellite companies came into their house and ran 10 miles worth of cables making the installation look horrible. My dad had to fix all of it himself because the tech wouldn't.

I hate directv. There is another option which is AT&T uverse. Free dvr in every room and more channels for less than dish. If you tell the sales guy on the phone you have a contract they will send you a bunch of $ in gift cards go break it. Everything that is an upgrade with other companies is standard with them. It is by far the best I ever had and I have had every carrier. By the way they sent me $450 in gift cards to switch.

U-Verse isn't available in my area. Or at least the website says it isnt. Are you in Pensacola with U-Verse? I had it at my last address (in TX) and was pleased. Ran into the same situation though, their website said it wasn't available but I called and the tech said it was. I may give them a call and see what they say.

Thanks folks.
